Yoga for Equestrians

This one is a big request! Whether you are an equestrian or a city slicker, this practice is for you.

Yoga for Equestrians is a 33 minute strengthening at home yoga practice designed to provide stability and gentle release. We will light up the core, stretch out the hip flexors and quadriceps, find the midline, and calm the nervous system with poses like modified pigeon and lizard.

This session provides an opportunity for core connection with mindful love for the lower back, the legs, and the psoas. Remember, the breath comes first.

Hop on the mat to give your mind and body some attention.

Giddy up!

  1. Wow - i am getting back in the saddle and this practice is exactly what my body needs. Thanks so much,

  2. Hi Adriene, I've been doing your videos for about 18 months now, it's honestly been life changing! I'm having a c section next week and am really keen to get back to the yoga. Would you please consider doing a special one for post C section? Thanks Beth

    1. Morning, any yoga for lower back and legs is wonderful! Helps circulation:) If we could add hands in a yoga class that would be wonderful too! Cold weather wreaks havoc on my finger tips!!!! Thank you,

  3. This is an amazing practice - thank you so much. I haven't ridden a horse since I was about 19 but this is one I will come back to regularly. I especially loved the bit about 23 minutes in with the arms - this felt great in body and mind.
I woke with lower back pain - did your psoas and lower back videos and then found this in my inbox you psychic wonderful woman. And yes, my dog, Nico loved the horsey lips.

    Thank you lovely lady! Namaste.

  4. Oh, what a fantastic idea! As a thirty-something who’s recently started reconnecting with her childhood love of horses, I could not be happier about this practice. Thanks for knocking it out of the park yet again, Adriene!

  5. Adriene
Totally left field Qs. More of a request .... but can you do some yoga videos for golfers? There is a huge push to integrate yoga w golfing which I find excellent on multiple fronts .... thank you for all your videos!

  6. Really looking forward to our New January Challenge!!!
Thanks for all the gifts you send us!!!

  7. I love all of your videos and how you have a practice for everyone!! Have you ever considered doing yoga for rowers? I’m a rower and would love to see something like that. I think rowers can really benefit from some good stretching!

  8. Thank you so much for creating this video!!! I've been riding for almost 30 years (most of my life, ) and I'm so excited there's a yoga video to go with my favorite pastime. ❤️❤️❤️

  9. Thank you for all your encouragement. It seems like everytime I get back to daily practice something happens, illness, injury, life in general. I feel discouraged. Then when I dive back in I am encouraged and told it's okay to be where I'm at. It's like being with a true friend.

  10. Yes! Thank you for getting to this! As an avid equestrian, the love for the hips, upper legs, and core is very much what I need to keep functioning! Plus it's just nice to feel seen 🙂

  11. I am more of a "city slicker ," and still loved this practice!
    Happy Sunday ☺
    Thank you again, Adriene...

    Love from NY, Jen

  12. I am a 65 year old who regularly rides, though presently am on hiatus due to very sore psoas and lower back. I am hoping these yoga exercises get me back in the saddle very soon as I am really missing riding.

  13. Loved this practice this morning, it helped me process some things:) And I love the FWFG necklace you posted! Looking forward to when it is available!:) Also, is there a FWFG retreat coming out in 2019?

  14. Great practice to “hop back on the saddle” :). Looking forward to the new 30 days in January.

  15. Perfect! I am one of those horse folks! Opening the hips, focus on the core and being centered helps. Thank you!

  16. That was awesome! Loved the giggly moments especially......making me smile as always. Thank you Adriene, for all the FEEL GOODS!!

  17. Thank you, Adriene. I can always pull something from your practice. This week it was needing to get back on my favorite horse {yoga}. <3

  18. So many exciting news in the newsletter today’, I can’t wait for January, I’ve done previous 30 Day Yoga Challenges but never ‘live’.
The fwfg necklace looks really really pretty, can’t wait to hear more and hope it comes in silver too.

  19. So happy and excited about this. Vill start my morning tomorrow with this practise before I go to the stables 🙂

  20. I loved this one Adriene! I am an equestrian (dressage rider) and I've been waiting for a yoga video for us horse people! Thank you Thank you Thank you!

  21. Thanks for another great workout. I feel great. I start my 4th year with you in January 2019 with the next 30 day challenge. Thanks for all that you have done to keep us involved in your yoga practices.

  22. Lovely, thanks so much. Did this at home, at night in my cosy cottage in the West of Ireland.

  23. Adriene,

I just want to express my gratitude here--as a former horse girl myself (although once a horse girl...we know), this practice was fun, but it was especially delicious for me because I recently had a small surgery done on the sole of my foot and haven't practiced in about 3 weeks. The effects of not maintaining my regular practice started to take hold recently, so I decided today to jump back into the saddle (heyo) and start practicing daily again. You were right, this is the perfect practice to come back to after my mini yoga hiatus. Thank you so much for this, and everything!

  24. Hi Adriene! Great video as always! I have a question though! I am part of the YWA Membership ( which I love) and I noticed that you have the prenatal yoga videos and lady talk ( I am just in my second trimester of my first pregnancy) which I have done the first trimester video and watched the lady talk videos, but I was wanting to hope on board with the December playlist and of course the upcoming 30 days of Yoga this year. I am getting back into yoga after a long absence and I was wondering if/what poses are not safe for pregnant women to do as I am a little nervous about pulling/bending in a way that could harm the baby or cause a placental abruption or some sort of thing (I am also a high risk pregnancy due to a medical condition so I am probably a bit more paranoid than I need to be about it ) But I was wondering if you could talk a bit about how to modify the practices or perhaps was wondering if you plan on doing more prenatal videos in the future? Being pregnant is kind of stressful on your body, and a bit painful so it's nice to have yoga to be able to ease out those aches and pains and destress. Thanks again for all you do!! 🙂 You're the best!

    1. Kristi, please consult with your medical provider about what is appropriate for you during your pregnancy. Adriene provides guidelines for the 30 days for most pregnant women, but since you have been away from your practice for a long time and you have a high-risk pregnancy, you need to take extra care and precautions and consult your doctor for guidance. Does your OB doctor provide any kinds of classes for pregnant women? Some doctors and hospitals offer prenatal yoga classes. That might be helpful. This might be a good time to build your meditation practice with Adriene's meditation videos too.

Best wishes on your pregnancy and delivery!

  25. Love it! I'm a horse girl from way back, but more a yoga girl these days.. all thanks to you Adriene 😉 Much love from lil ol' NZ.

  26. Wow Thank you, as a 56 year old pleasure rider / happy hacker this just what I need. Thankyou from Me and my faithful pony

  27. Adriene, thank you for stepping into my life! I have finally found a way of working out that is manageable in my daily life! I love this, and for nearly 5 months I have started every day on the mat with you. Looking forward to the January sessions! Thank you so much! Love from Kristin, Norway

  28. Absolutely loved this one! It did kick my butt though especially after the Weight Loss for Abs and Arms yesterday! I had to take it slow and be super mindful of the messages my body was sending me.Thank you Adrienne for another great at home workout! I am so grateful I found your channel it has healed my body and mind!

  29. In keeping with today's theme I just had to add a stirrup posture at the end
Another great practice. That was some stretch of the front of the hips!

  30. Tis was a wonderful yoga session in an easy and playful style. My core is strengthened and I feel my psoas and my shoulder girdle 🙂 Even if I do not ride my horses anymore I need yoga so much in order to go for walks in wilderness with them, pull the hay through the snow, share it out - and trim their hoofs. I love your animal friendly attitude, Adrienne!

  31. I had surgery to repair a hernia just above my belly button on November 9th. The doctor says I can return to yoga near the end of December. How do I ease back in as he is worried about how much core work there is...I miss my yoga sooooo very much though. Any help is appreciated!

    1. Sonya, be sure to follow your surgeon's advice about when and how to return to your practice. When you do return to your practice, start with slower and gentle practices and ease back in slowly and mindfully. In the beginning, avoid practices that mention core work in the description. There is a playlist on the YWA YouTube channel for Gentle Yoga. Definitely follow your doctor's guidance about when to resume core work. Best wishes on your continued healing.

  32. I was a faithful participant for several months, but have not been tuned in for awhile now. I have MS and thought that yoga would help my body relax, energize and overall, feel better. And it did for a while until my hip (or what I though was my hip) became quite painful. Orthoped said it was NOT the hip (replacement) but my BACK! Long story short (2 late) sent to rehab (with instructor who was your clone), and she worked with me but now the pain is back BIG TIME. She told me NOT to do "dog" or "happy baby" poses. Also the "cat" is off limits as well. I have not been back to rehab since pain returned. What am I to DO? I LOVE YOU AND YOUR PROGRAM! They say I have arthritis in my back so....can yoga still help? I was very happy in body and mind when I was with you....is there hope?

    1. I'm sorry for the pain you have been experiencing, Kreta. Individualized, in-person guidance sounds like the best next step for you at this time. Could you return to rehab and set your goal to be able to practice yoga with Adriene and work with your instructor to reach this goal? Perhaps if you are clear with your instructor about what you hope to achieve, beyond the pain relief, they will be able to help you work toward this and you will be able to return to your mat in a way that is good for your body and feels good.

  33. I loved this video and all of your lower back, hip, sciatica videos. I have Piriformis syndrome, a quick practice for this perhaps? Looking forward to the 2019, 30 days of yoga!!

  34. What a surprise! That was exactly what my back needed today! Thank you for being creative and funny. You start my days with a stretch and a smile!

  35. I loved this. If there was enough demand it would be amazing to have an Equestrian series! Which series would you recommend is great for Equestrians? Thankyou!!

  36. I am thrilled to have found this video.
After being a 3-day eventer for 33 years, I have just had 2 lower back surgeries in 12 month. The last was a 2 level fusion 3 months ago.
I am desperate to be able to ride again and I am hoping this will be a part of that process.
    Thank you!

  37. I've been doing this practice daily to try to open my extremely unyielding hips and flexors (it's feeling great!!) and I watch through the beginning intro EVERY TIME just to swoon and smile over the face Benji makes while he's leaning into you. God, what a perfect creature he is!

(Also, thank you for everything you do. You are truly something special.)

  38. I love the commentary in this one, absolutely hilarious! You should take allergy medication more often. Great video, such good stretches.
