Tabletop Position – Yoga Tips

11/10/2014 By Yoga With Adriene 13 Comments

On this episode of Yoga Tips we tackle the alignment and action of Tabletop Position – per request! While we love to be soft, experiential and to focus on sensations and finding what feels good, sometimes it is helpful to focus on alignment and keep noticing what we can do to create a strong foundation for our practice. This allows us to find freedom within the form and ultimately to enjoy our yoga practice – more and more. I share tips on creating a strong and healthy foundation in Tabletop Position – which will assist you in other poses and invite more integrity into your asana. Have fun!

It will! It will help with full body strength as there is more than meets the eye here for sure! Such great shape to check in with to engage physically and energetically! Enjoy as the ease flows in with more practice. xoo A

    Hi Adriene,

Thanks for this upload, my sister recommended your videos to me as someone who had never done yoga, and just in the past few weeks I have become totally hooked! You have really inspired me and brought a lot of positive energy into my life through your funny and warm videos and blog, so I really want to say a HUGE thank you – you’re awesome!

Just in regard to the video, I too have found I have some tension in my right hand and wrist when doing some poses like the downward facing dog – the tension can be a bit restricting so I was wondering if you had any tips to avoid that?

Also, I often find some poses very hard on my knees, perhaps you have some advice to strengthen the knees or avoid that pressure and tension when practising?

Thanks again, you’re really doing a great thing here 🙂
    Cheers, Cassidy xx

Hi, I recently had to stop yoga as I have frozen shoulder. Now I’m doing daily light exercises to regain movement in my shoulder. Do you have a program that would help me without too much strain?

    Hi Adriene!

Just a question about my yoga mat, I bought a new mat since the one I had was getting old and losing grip. However the new one I bought has an awful rubber smell and seems to have even less grip than the one I currently have? Any tips on washing or how to make it gain some grip?

    Thanks

    Hi Adriene!

I just LOVE your yoga classes. I just have one question. When I’m in table top position you say to draw my belly button towards my spine. But when I do that, I feel like I can’t breathe properly. I’ve always learned to breath through my belly. So when I inhale my belly gets bigger. Do you have any tips how I can solve this problem?

may the sunlight be with you!

Hello Adriene! Thank you for the amazing videos. I have a few questions, if you don’t mind! I sometimes struggle t -ok, I always struggle- o understand what you mean by heart over pelvis? I know it sounds incredibly easy and logical but somehow it confuses me. My second questions regards knees! (she said knees??) when I do the table pose or other poses I feel sore there for a few days afterwards. Is there something wrong with my posture (as far as you can tell, of course!) And actually the third point is a request: I really struggle to do the runners lunge postures due to -hum- generous upper body (no thank you mother nature!). If others are like in your yoga community maybe a video without runners lunge would be great? or a “special upper body”!
    Anyway, great thanks again Adriene!

I feel like this is helping with my back problem a little bit. My back doesn’t hurt as bad as it normally does. I wonder how much good this is doing for me.

Hi, thank you for teaching the basics for ‘newbies’. I have a couple of queries…. with the Tabletop position, are your knees always on the floor, or off the floor? My last query is… you often say to hold a pose for three breadths… is this the minimum number, or the maximum? Thanks again for your advice. J

Thank you for video. I read somewhere that Tabletop posture is good to energize Anahat chakra. Your video helped me to understand what the posture is. Thanks again.
