Go The Limits Of Your Longing, By Rainer Maria Rilke

God speaks to each of us as he makes us,

Then walks with us silently out of the night.

These are the words we dimly hear.

You, send out beyond your recall.

Go the limits of your longing.

Embody me.

Flare up like a flame

And make big shadows I can move in.

Let everything happen to you: beauty and terror.

Just keep going. No feeling is final.

Don’t let yourself lose me.

Nearby is the country they call life.

You will know it by its seriousness.

Give me your hand.

  1. Hey, Adriene! I'm sorry this isn't directly related to the post, but I didn't know where else to contact you. I have a lot of joint pain that I inherited from my mother, and it's getting pretty debilitating. There's nothing we can do at the moment, but your videos have helped me handle the pain. I was hoping you could do a video specifically for joint pain in the future; knees, wrists, ankles, elbows, and maybe something for hands. (I can't even open cans at this point.) Thanks for everything you've done so far, and I wish you the best.

  2. Dear Adriene, I just wanted to say I am wishing you thoughts, prayers and good vibes of positivity and health as you rest over the weekend before your op on Monday. May the operation go well and your recovery too. From across the ocean but not far in feelings. Tamsin x

  3. Love Rilke 🙂 I also love Rumi - have you read any of his poetry? One of my favourite lines from a poem of his:

"Your life has been a mad gamble. Make it more so. You've lost a hundred times running. Roll the dice a hundred and one."

  4. Thank you Adriene, for your Rocking video's (use them almost every day) and now great poetry too... Hope your voice gets well soon and that you can keep inspiring people with that great energy. <3 Tim

  5. Thank you so much for this important reminder. I just wanted to say that I found you on you tube and it has made such a difference to start the mornings with you and your authentic yoga style. Thank you dear heart for making a difference.

  6. Thank you for sharing this inspiring poem Adriene and thank you for all your yoga videos. I tell everyone about them!

  7. I am trying to recall what movie had this poem on the screen at the very end. I go to so many movies. Wanted to remember to tell friends.
    Anyone know?

  8. Yes, these words struck me as well...at the end of Jojo Rabbit -just a short excerpt of Rilke's poem...
Let everything happen to you; beauty and terror...just keep going
No feeling is final. It flashed on the screen and I was like...Wait! What? Quickly rewind...'Let everything happen...' wow! It so perfectly summed up this movie - Beauty and Terror. Googled it, and the poem in its entirety was so impactful to me, I've comitted it to memory.
