Yoga Camp - Day 6

Also, more traditionally known as SIX PACK ABS. But, the Yoga With Adriene version. We target the core in our Yoga Camp practice today. Work the abdominal wall, tone the belly, strengthen the back - in a way that is supported. The mantra today is I Am Supported. Learn to balance all your heart's desires and be true to who you really are! Yes, I think this video can guide you toward all that. Give it a try and let me know how it goes. A little goes a long way when you are working with integrity. Breathe deep and be mindful. Go for the gold! Your yoga practice has your back.

  1. I find yoga work to be a challenge, only because my core is weak at the moment. I am grateful for your guidance in the placement of the hands. The hand hammock makes a big difference in how my neck feels. I still struggle with the breath at this point, but with practice I know I will get stronger.

  2. Love Yoga Camp! I used a four pound hand weight for my block and song with an eagle in it - Fly like an Eagle by Steve Miller Band...

Great workout today! I will be doing this one again!

    Namaste,
    Charlene

  3. Hello Adriene, I love your videos. I started on the yoga camp, but I am having some issues. I am in Australia not sure that is really important but nice to know I guess. I have been diagnosed with fibromyalgia, but my ex- physio and I think it is possibly more of a myopain syndrome.

So the first day I did the bedtime yoga as I was keen to get started. Then because of the time difference the second day there was no video, so I did the foundation class. Then on the third day I did the I create class. (52mins). Then I haven't been able to do any since as all my trigger points have been set off! In the past I tried yoga classes in my area but same thing I was completely exhausted after practice.
I however teach karate once a week and most of the time train once a week. I have been a karate-ka practitioner for nearly 10 years, I was diagnosed with my condition about 6 years ago.
I thought that shorter yoga sessions would be best for me. I recently discovered after completing a psoas major release. 3 simple releases only lasting 5-2mins each. That this release set off all of my trigger points in my shoulder, back, hips and legs.
I then discovered that the 10most common trigger points all effect me greatly. In this research I found that I need to work out the trigger points before stretching as the stretching can actually make the triggers tighter.

Having said all this I really want to continue with your holistic yoga camp as I was really responding to it mentally and (during) physically to your classes.
    A) do you have any programs for people like me?
    B) do you have any suggestions for me when working through your program?
    C) not my fave option.. do you have a suggestion of someone else who offers a similar program for people like me?

Thank you so much for your generosity, of providing this program. You have a fabulous spirit and wonderful teaching manner.

    1. Hi Naomi, I have had a family member also suffer from this and noticed when she changed her diet drastically that it helped. She felt a shift. I think that focusing on pranayama in yoga, the breath practice, is a great tool for dealing with chronic pain as it can directly effect how your body is perceiving and processing pain. It can help keep the fight or flight response in check and help to not release cortisol while you are moving your body with purpose and intention. Daily breath work is so crucial for anyone with chronic pain. Activating the parasympathetic nervous system each day with a video from the pranayama series. Or just sit or lie down with hands gently on belly and breathe in and out slowly. If you want to exercise I believe it is helpful to start with daily breath practice. It undeniably takes patience but I believe it will help you explore movement without aching trigger points more easily. I will do a video with poses to suggest for this as well but I recommend trying - Yoga for Healing with Sarah Bates, DVD. Sarah is very knowledgable on this topic and has experience with it which I think is important as I've heard the pain from Fibromyalgia can have no boundaries. I will continue to explore this in yoga. Thank you for writing and I'm honored to explore this topic with you and again, I will continue to! I got your back. Namaste.

  4. Day 6 of Yoga Camp was fantastic. It feels great to work on the core without having to do countless crunches. I'll be repeating this video a lot in the future.

I used a football as my prop today...it actually worked really well.

Thank you for time and your humor!

  5. Hi Adrienne,
I am very grateful to have stumbled across your website you are very inspirational. I am doing Yoga camp but unfortunately I only received one email (Day 1) then have not received any of the following days. I am just hoping I can get back on the email train!

      1. Hi Chris,

first, many many warm thanks to the whole Yoga of Adriene team for the great work and support you guys provide us with.
I decided to supplement my Revolution transformation experience with completing Yoga Camp, however, I didn't get an email for Day 6 this morning (nothing in my junk mail either)...I would not want to miss out.
Could it please please please (puppy eyes) be possible to send it again?

        Thanks a lot lot lot!

        Iveta

  6. Survived it. Ab work is always so tough for me. Yet I need it more then any other area. So on to Day 7.Looking forward to the weekend with Yoga Camp.

  7. Haha, I took a dictionary as a prop! I thought the shape mattered, I thought we would sit on it or something.
    That was fun*
    Thanks Adrienne for your videos.
I love to feel everyday I have to do yoga to fulfill my camp*
Do it before work finish it after work when I don't have time for the whole session (especially day 2! Long one!)
    I don't do that usually...
    So thanks for the inspiration♥

  8. Thank you for all you are doing! I am loving Yoga Camp! So grateful I found you. I love your style, it's just what I didn't know I wanted.

  9. Love the videos! I stopped getting emails too! I signed back up but then it started me back at day 1 :-(. I got behind this weekend and will be on day 7 today

  10. Song "Love the One You're With" by Crosby Stills and Nash: "... The eagle flies with the dove..."
I love your claases. As a relative newcomer to yoga I have found your sense of humor, relaxed attitude, and comfortable pace to be wonderful!

  11. I just started the program last wek so I'm behind as far as those that started the first of the month. But I just finished day 6 and I love this program!!! Adriene makes it fun and intersting and very doable!!
I like doing something different every day!! I have tried lots of different yoga and other exercise DVDs and I never stick with them. I know I'm going to stick with this one!!

  12. I love yoga camp!!

Also did 30 days of yoga last year, getting addicted to your teaching! It feels so healthy and fun to work with you, YOU ARE AMAZING!!

    Thank you for everything!

Used an apple as my prop 😉

    Namaste

  13. Brilliant! The 'low boat' completely undid me - my core/lower abdominals are quite weak (after three children!) but loved the challenge of it - and I was surprised i did't go to 'toxic' thoughts but enjoyed the challenge and was totally accepting of it and looking forward to strengthening that area again... Also loved the subtle shift from strength to support - seriously Adriene you are genius!

    1. Me too Renee!!! I have four kids, and my body finally (baby is about to turn 2!) feeling like its recovering. The negative self talk is out the window! But holy whoa that Boat Pose was hard work! But I felt so good completing it!

  14. Used my water bottle as my prop. lol.....Whoa that was a good work through!! Thank you for the tips to make sure my lower back was supporting the work! Made all the difference!!

  15. Awesome, loving this yoga camp series. Just discovered in May but I'm doing it every day! Any suggestions for doing core exercises after a C section? My son is 3 and I'm finally feeling ready to work on my core but finding it slow going. Thanks!!

  16. So I really struggled with the first move, as rolling from side to side became painful for sacrum and the top of my pelvic bone. Any ideas for adjusting, or why this might be painful? I vaguely remember having similar difficulty in a Pilates class with back work, but that was more than a decade ago.

  17. Hi Adriene! Ditto Steve Cohen's comment above, including the song...but I also like Eagle When She Flies. Recently started working with a counselor/coach...finding this program has dovetailed perfectly with sorting things out and learning how to love self. My fitness program has been hit and miss the past few years, but in August I started walking significant amounts each day. I was trying to figure out what to do after ruling out the local Y to keep active during the winter, and was led to you by many members of the Miracle Morning community. So glad!! Healing in body and soul now, and time with you during this yoga camp is both soothing and stimulating. God bless!

  18. I'm loving your Yoga Camp! A friend told me to look up your classes on youtube and I'm so glad she did. Love your sense of humor! After having two giant babies and two c-sections (18 months since the second) I have an enormous division in my abs (diastasis recti). Any advice for people like me on how to heal those abs? Thanks!

  19. I just found your videos. A friend suggested them. I’m late to the party! I am loving the Yoga Camp challenge. It’s the perfect way to ease into a practice and make yoga a habit. I never was into yoga because I felt it was too slow. But, every day I look forward to spending time on the mat with you. I don’t feel like someone is forcing me to strike the perfect pose, but to work to my ability in the moment. I love the mantras with this challenge as well. That is why I started the Yoga Camp challenge over the other two 30 day challenges. Thank you for changing my mind about yoga!

  20. The Golden Eagle Hornpipe, cuz I'm a geeky fiddler. But I used a block to pass, not a fiddle - I wasn't quite that brave!

Thanks so very much Adriene. 🙂 Namaste.
