(light music) - Hello and welcome to Center Your 30 Day Yoga Journey. Whether we are meeting for the first time or we are longtime friends, thank you so much for being here. Today is Day 0, alright? And a lot of you may know what Day 0 is all about and some of you may be new here and so let me tell you. This is not our first yoga day or yoga asana, yoga movement day. This is a welcome day. You can think of it like an orientation day. If you were ready to do yoga today, guess what? You have a whole day to just soak up your intentions and prepare. And if you're just now getting to this opportunity, just now jumping in, kind of spontaneous decision, I got your back too because we have a day to just, eh, center and get ready for the journey. So first things first, if you don't know me, hi, I'm Adriene. This is the eighth year we are doing this 30 Day Yoga Journey and so I've had some practice and each time I learn a little bit more about what serves the community, what serves us as we're going along this 30 Day Yoga Journey together. So I want to thank you for trusting me and saying yes to this opportunity. There are a couple of things that I can share that might help you a little bit along the way. The first things may be a little obvious, but just a few little housekeeping items; one, always wear something comfortable that you can move in, that you feel good in. You don't have to have any fancy yoga pants or fancy tops. Just wear something comfortable, pajamas, loose fitting clothes, whatever feels good. I mean, that's really one of the more joyous things about practicing at home. I mean, you can even be really free and wear little to no clothing. I mean, why not? I'm just keepin' it real here. The other thing is you might want a yoga mat. If you have one, that's really great. If you don't, it's all good. You just need a hard surface. And even a carpeted surface will work well for this journey. This program is really designed for all types of people and it really encapsulates the whole Yoga With Adriene mission, which is to provide this experience, this opportunity to as many people as possible. There are many layers to this practice so if you are someone who considers yourself a more advanced practitioner, I've layered in things for you. If you are brand new, complete total beginner to yoga, I got your back as well. So if you have a yoga mat, bring it. If you don't, you don't need to go buy one. Benji. This is my assistant, Benji. If you don't have one, you don't need to go buy one. You can just use a nice hard surface. There are a few household items that you might bring, a few centering accoutrements. If you have a yoga block, bring it. We'll use it. If you don't have a yoga block, you can use a book or just like a hard-cased something. (laughs) Use your creative mind to find out what that is. And then I would suggest if you have a towel, or like a beach towel, or it could be a bath towel or a blanket, doesn't have to necessarily be like a Mexican yoga blanket. Just bring a blankie or two, have that around you. There are a couple days where I invite us to bring a pillow to practice. This can be a pillow from your bed or a couch pillow or if you're doing this on the go, you never need any of these items to get the most out of the practice. It's still gonna be really lovely. There are a few things you can do to enhance your experience. One, I think it's always really wise to tell the people you live with that you're making this commitment. And then if you wanna be extra, invite friends, invite family, invite people you know to join you, to help with that accountability that I know we all tend to struggle with sometimes. So that could be a really good idea. And then, this is a framework for you to play in. I'm here to guide you every step of the way. But if there's anything that you feel like would support you on this journey, whether that's making a little yoga mat spray. This is a three item yoga mat spray. I'm gonna share a little recipe for it in the daily emails. Which if you haven't yet signed up for your daily email, please use the link in the description to sign up. That's just gonna help you get the most out of this program. And they're short, they're sweet, it's not a lot and those emails stop after Day 30. So you're not like, you're not succumbed to hearing from me every single day for the rest of your life unless you want to, then we can arrange that. Just kidding. Alright, I think that's it. Bring something to pad the knees, bring a pillow if you want and then just ask yourself, "Would it be nice to have a little candle nearby?" Don't need it, not necessary. Maybe a little spray. Maybe it's just about communication, writing down your commitment in a journal, thinking about your why. Why do you want to do this? And if you don't know yet, totally cool. Maybe you'll know at the end, at Day 30. Why is this important? Why do I want to do this for myself? You know, I've said this before, but I'll just share one last time here before we dive in tomorrow with Day 1 that having a daily centering practice of any kind is going to support you in this idea of whole body mental health. I don't know a single person who hasn't been thrown off-center in recent years. So this practice is really designed for the here and now and I hope that it will support you in creating a more healthy and harmonious connection between your brain, your body, and your heart, or your soul. Practicing with people all over the world has been my greatest life's honor and so I'm just really excited and a little, a little touched to be going on this journey with you once again, whether this is your first time, I'm excited to join you for the first time or I know there are just so many people who do this as an annual tradition so thank you so much for continuing and for helping me keep this tradition alive. Wherever you are, we're gonna close with three deep breaths together. It's that easy. So wherever you are, sit up nice and tall, or if you're laying down watching this in your bed, rock on, you can just snuggle your shoulder blades down, create a little spaciousness around your neck and your shoulders. And then wherever you are, just find a gentle lift up through your sternum or your heart. And then we'll inhale in deeply together. And exhale, completely relaxing the shoulders. Inhale in. And exhale, release. And if you haven't already, maybe for this last one, you close your eyes or soften your gaze and inhale lots of love in. And exhale lots of love out. Bring the palms together, bow your head to your heart, allow your breath to just return to its natural rhythm. Opportunity here to finish this sentence. "I choose to commit to the "30 Day Yoga Journey becauseā€¦" "I choose to commit to the 30 Day Yoga Journey becauseā€¦" And if you can't think of how to finish that sentence, just say, maybe affirm. "I choose to commit to the 30 Day Yoga Journey." Trust it. Don't think too hard. Take a deep breath in again. Exhale to lift the head, release the hands. Find a little movement in your shoulders if you like. That's the thing, do not think too hard about this. If you can do Day 1 of this journey, of this practice, which is tomorrow, you can do the entire thing, I promise you. So on that note, I will see you then. I cannot wait. Thank you again for being here. I'll see you tomorrow. (light music)
