Back To Basics - Foundations Reunion!

Hi everyone,

In this weeks letter I offer a little (fun) homework as we bring our attention back to our foundation - our roots.

Where are you rooted these days?

I have selected a weeks worth of foundational videos from our Foundations Of Yoga Series for us to play with this week. The Foundations Of Yoga is awesome because we essentially get a chance to go back to basics and educate ourselves on how to grow our poses with a strong connection to breath, alignment and energy. This is where we invite some serious joy in. Here we slow it down and work it out. Something we cannot always do during a public class, or a flowy practice.

Follow my suggested schedule or check out the Foundations Of Yoga playlist and create your own Back To Basics schedule for the week ahead!

This yogi homework should be fun! An exciting experiment for the beginner or experienced yogi. I am constantly coming back to learn and re-learn what my feet are telling me. I am committed to continuing my education this week by practicing a foundations video each day or just by bringing more awareness to how I connect to the ground beneath me.

Wednesday - Mountain Pose and/or Samasthiti

Thursday - New Foundations Video! Half Moon Pose

Friday - Downward Dog

Saturday - Warriors I, II or III

Sunday - Reclined Twist

Monday - Headstand or Crow

Tuesday - Triangle Pose

Share feedback on your foundations reunion with us below! Our hashtag (no shame!) this week is #YWAfoundationsreunion 🙂

  1. Yes! I'm so excited for this homework. I have been wanting to learn more about "grounding," but didn't really know where to start. And some of these poses are ones I could use work on.

  2. Can't wait to get back to some basics! Love love. Thanks for keeping us on track and have a great time in LA! 🙂

  3. Hey!
The yogi homework sounds fun and exactly what I need, being new to the practice. Been following you for a few months now, getting acquainted to the foundations of yoga videos and other practices. Must say, you're great! You make even the harder poses seem so easy, explaining them in easy ways.
Thank you and I will (maybe the first time in my life) happily do my homework this week, putting my heart into it!

    Best Regards from Estonia,
    Maret

    1. Yay! What a lovely message, thank you Maret! I know- its the good kind of homework! 🙂 The kind that makes you feel alive! Love to you!

  4. Happy belated birthday from Bulgaria, will enjoy the foundation, had no idea mountain involved this amount of work.

    1. I know! Isn't it wild! Just goes to show how much is going on! I love it! We can never get bored. Alive we shall be! xoxo Thank you for the birthday wishes Marveil! 🙂

  5. This is excellent! I've never really gotten the basics of yoga, I just sort of jumped into it. Thanks for this list, Adriene. 🙂

  6. TaDasana! I cut my morning walk short and practiced this today. Lovely! Looking forward to Half Moon tomorrow. I've been getting better since Empower but could definitely use some help with that one. Thank you!

  7. Love this. I did a full morning of just practicing foundations. Tadasana!!, plank & down dog. It feels dang good to get back to the roots of the practice. Thanks Adriene and thanks for being born this month! We're pretty lucky to have you.

    1. Amen, I agree Nancy! And thank you! What a glorious month and what an amazing online community of yogis. Thank you! Namaste.

  8. This is fabulous! I often build your Foundations videos into my practice and I'm glad that you've put together a list! I can't, however, get the half moon link to work (sad face).

  9. Downward dog was the perfect pose for a little run recovery this morning! I love this playlist and am looking forward to Monday's headstand. Namaste Adriene!

    1. Yes! I did some DD today before and after a little run. It was just what the doctor ordered. That, a lunge and a pigeon = perfect. xox

  10. Hello Adriene ! I was a bit upset against myself because after a race that was 2 weeks ago I stopped doing yoga, because I wasnt feeling motivated, and also because I was starting a new year at uni.
But last Sunday, I went into a yoga class with some friends, and it was so good that I was "well, Victoria, you need to get back on track with your practice!" . Then the day after I've done the "winter blues" video after a super long day at uni and felt so, so good. And I was so truly happy to hear your voice again, your jokes, I was very grateful and thankful ! Today I have another yoga class in my fitness center that I never tried before, so I'm crossing my fingers for it to be good 🙂 Plus I'm going with my mom, who have never tried yoga before, so it's very exciting !
Also, I 've never done the "foundation" videos of yours, so I'll try to do one or two this week, it can be only good for me, as I'm still a beginner 🙂
Thanks so much again Adriene !

    Love from France!

  11. Your videos are what got me into yoga and help me through any stress in my day and bring me back to the present moment. Back to basics is an awesome idea, especially as I am still new to yoga. However, moon pose gives me severe charlie horses in my hips, especially when I remove the block. Any helpful advice to make this pose come easier to me, thank you!

  12. Hello from Louisiana!
I just saw this blog post and thought I'd take the opportunity to thank you for the Foundations of Yoga videos! I started practicing with you a few months ago and recently started a project of doing a foundations video each night before going to bed--last night I left off on bridge pose. I love really getting to the roots of each pose and learning more about them than in the normal practice videos. I hope you have a lovely week, thank you for being a wonderful teacher and yoga inspiration <3

  13. I just wanted to say I've been doing your yoga videos for a couple months now and love them! I used to live in Austin too so it's really fun to see your on location videos and here your little 'Austinite' stories/shout outs.

Anyways...got off track there...what I wanted to say is a couple weeks ago I decided to begin your Foundations of Yoga series and do one or two each day. I am LOVING them!!!! The mountain pose break down has not only helped me focus on the mat but through my every day life to find my center and grounding intentions when needed.

I'm slowly [more like s-l-o-w-l-y] getting my husband to try out your videos too and I'm sure it won't be long until he's addicted as well. 🙂

    Thanks for being so amazing!

ps: I adore your video intro music! It's awesomesauce!!!
